About ABS Filament

ABS Filament

What is ABS filament?

ABS filament is one of the most common materials used in 3D printing today. ABS, or Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene, is a thermoplastic that is easily molded when heated and hardens evenly when cooled. Because it can take many forms and maintains its quality, ABS filament is used in traditional manufacturing in a variety of industries, as well as, by 3D printing hobbyists.

Advantages of ABS filament

ABS filament is a common 3D printing material for a variety of reasons.

  • ABS filament is an extremely durable thermoplastic. It is commonly used in rapid prototyping and additive manufacturing environments to test product impact resistance and durability.
  • ABS has strong electrical insulation properties.
  • ABS filament’s properties of higher temperature resistance, flexibility, machinability and strength make it a preference for engineers and others where mechanical uses are important.
  • Parts made from ABS can be processed with acetone, for a smooth, shiny finish.
